Jim Gilmore served as the 70th governor of Virginia from 1998 to 2002. A Republican, Gilmore was the only member of his party to be elected governor in the 2000 elections. He was defeated in his bid for re-election by Democrat Mark Warner in 2001. After leaving office, Gilmore served as the president of the National Rifle Association from 2009 to 2013.
