Kermit the Frog was Jim Henson's first major puppet character. Henson created Kermit in 1955 for a local television show in Washington, D.C. Kermit quickly became a popular character, and Henson went on to use him in numerous other television shows and films, including "Sesame Street" and "The Muppet Show." Kermit is known for his optimistic personality, his love of music, and his signature catchphrase, "Hi-ho, Kermit the Frog here!"
