Exoplanets are planets that orbit stars other than the Sun. In 1995, Michel Mayor and Didier Queloz discovered the first exoplanet orbiting a sun-like star, 51 Pegasi b. Their discovery shared the 2019 Nobel Prize in Physics with James Peebles for his work on cosmic inflation.
