James Sensenbrenner Jr. began his representation of Wisconsin's 5th district in the United States House of Representatives in 1979. He was first elected in a special election to fill the seat of Henry S. Reuss, who had resigned to become president of the United States Institute of Peace. Sensenbrenner has been re-elected 19 times, most recently in 2020.
