Battle Group Peiper committed war crimes against American prisoners of war (POWs) during the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944. The group, led by SS Lieutenant Colonel Joachim Peiper, was responsible for the Malmedy massacre, in which 84 American POWs were killed. Peiper and other members of his unit were later convicted of war crimes and executed.
