In 2014, Joe Barton surpassed Ralph Hall to become the longest-serving member of the Texas congressional delegation. Barton was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1984, representing the 6th Congressional District of Texas. He served in the House for 30 years, until his retirement in 2015.
