Joe Clark sat as an independent Progressive Conservative after the merger of the Progressive Conservatives with the Canadian Alliance. The merger created the Conservative Party of Canada, and Clark did not join the new party. He sat as an independent MP until 2003, when he joined the Liberal Party.
