He had been the leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada from 1976 to 1983, and had served as Prime Minister of Canada from 1979 to 1980. After leaving politics, Clark became a diplomat and international business consultant. He also served as the Canadian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom from 2008 to 2010.
