Lieberman won his first election to the U.S. Senate in 1988, after serving as the Attorney General of Connecticut from 1983 to 1989. He was re-elected to the Senate in 1994, 2000, 2006, and 2012. He served as the Democratic Party's nominee for Vice President in the 2000 presidential election. Lieberman retired from the Senate in 2013.
