The first baseball player from Stony Brook University to reach the MLB was Joe Nathan. Nathan was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 1992 MLB draft. He made his major league debut in 1999. Nathan has been a successful closer in the MLB, winning the American League Rolaids Relief Man Award in 2007 and 2009. He was also named to the All-Star team in 2008 and 2010.
