Eric is Joe Thornton's middle name. Thornton is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who played 23 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL). He is widely considered one of the greatest passers in NHL history. Thornton was selected first overall by the Boston Bruins in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft. He played for the Bruins, San Jose Sharks, and Toronto Maple Leafs during his career.
