Alberto Gonzalez was the United States Attorney General from 2005 to 2007. He succeeded John Ashcroft and was succeeded by Michael Mukasey. Gonzalez was a controversial figure who was accused of politicizing the Justice Department and abusing his power. He was eventually forced to resign after a series of scandals.
