Jack Kelly Sr. was born on October 4, 1889. He was an American rower who competed in the 1920 Summer Olympics. Kelly won a gold medal in the single sculls event, becoming the first American to win an Olympic gold medal in rowing. He also competed in the double sculls event, but did not medal. Kelly was inducted into the National Rowing Hall of Fame in 1955.
