John Anstruther Berners, known as Tim Berners-Lee, is credited with inventing the World Wide Web. He was born in London, England, in 1955. Berners-Lee studied physics at Oxford University and later worked at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research. In 1989, he proposed a system for sharing information across the internet, which he called the World Wide Web.
