John Clipperton died in Clipperton Island, a remote island located in the eastern Pacific Ocean, on 18th May 1797. He was a British sailor and privateer who sailed to Clipperton Island in 1794 and claimed it for the United Kingdom. He ruled the island for several years until he was killed by his crew in 1797.
