John England was the Anglican Bishop of Charleston from 1766 to 1790. He was born in England in 1723 and educated at Oxford University. He was ordained as a priest in 1747 and served as rector of a parish in Hampshire before being appointed to the bishopric of Charleston. He arrived in South Carolina in 1767 and served as bishop until his death in 1790.
