John Gilbert was born John Cecil Pringle in 1897 in Logan, Utah. He began his acting career in 1915, and went on to become one of the most popular actors of the silent era. He was known for his romantic roles, and was often paired with Greta Garbo. Gilbert's career began to decline in the early 1930s, and he died of a heart attack in 1936.
