Although Harrison’s chronometers were successful, the British Parliament was slow to give him credit for his work, and he died before receiving his full reward. He was awarded £2,000 in 1765 for his H4 chronometer, and an additional £8,000 in 1773 for the H5 chronometer. He was also awarded a gold medal and the Freedom of the City of London.
