Utilitarianism is a philosophy of ethics that judges actions based on their overall usefulness. The best actions are those that produce the greatest happiness for the greatest number of people. Harsanyi contributed to utilitarianism by developing a theory of decision making under uncertainty that allows us to make ethical choices even when we don't know all the facts.
