Did Congress approve the Crittenden Compromise?

  • Yes

  • No

Answer

Congress did not approve the Crittenden Compromise. The Compromise was proposed by Senator John Crittenden of Kentucky in 1860 in an attempt to prevent the outbreak of the American Civil War. The Compromise proposed to extend the Missouri Compromise line to the Pacific Ocean, thus guaranteeing the existence of slavery in the territories acquired from Mexico in the Mexican-American War.
