Answer
John Kendrew won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1962 for his work on the structure of proteins. He and Max Perutz used X-ray crystallography to determine the structure of myoglobin, a protein found in muscle tissue. This was the first time that the structure of a protein had been determined, and it paved the way for many other discoveries in molecular biology.
