National Library of Scotland listed John Logie Baird in its Hall of Fame as the inventor of the world’s first mechanical television. While still at university, Baird experimented with early forms of television technology, transmitting moving silhouettes through a mechanical system. His first public demonstration took place in 1926, with moving images being transmitted in 1927.
