Answer
A Derringer pistol was used by John Wilkes Booth to shoot President Abraham Lincoln. Booth was a member of a group of Confederate sympathizers who plotted to kidnap or assassinate the president. He hid in the presidential box at Ford's Theatre in Washington, D.C., and shot Lincoln at close range as the president watched a play. Booth escaped from Theater but was later captured and killed.
