Pope John XXII died in 1334. He was born Jacques d'Euse in Cahors, France, in 1244. He joined the Franciscan Order in 1260 and was elected Pope in 1316. He was a strong supporter of the Franciscans and their teachings, and he opposed the doctrine of papal supremacy. He died in Avignon, France, in 1334.
