Why was Stuart initially found ineligible to play for Scotland?

  • His great-grandfather was from Glasgow, not his grandfather

  • He was born in England

  • He had already played for France

  • He was too young

Answer

The IRB requires that a player's'forefathers' have lived in a country for 70 years to be eligible to play for that country, Stuart's great-grandfather had lived in Glasgow, Scotland but his grandfather had moved to England. This meant that Stuart was not eligible to play for Scotland until he was 21 years old.
