Jörg Haider (26 January 1950 – 11 October 2008) was an Austrian politician. He was the leader of the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) from 1986 to 2000 and from 2005 to 2008. He was also the Governor of Carinthia from 1999 to 2008. Haider was a controversial figure, who was often accused of racism and xenophobia. He died in a car accident in 2008.
