Why did Chamberlain's public career come to an end?

  • Lost an election

  • Stepped down voluntarily

  • Had a stroke

  • Retired after a scandal

Answer

Chamberlain's public career came to an end because he had a stroke. He was in poor health and had been suffering from a series of strokes for some time. In the end, his health deteriorated to the point where he was no longer able to carry out his duties as prime minister. He resigned on 10 May 1940, and was replaced by Winston Churchill.
