Joachim moved to Berlin in 1865. He had studied in Paris for several years, but he felt that his musical training was not complete. He decided to move to Berlin to study with the great pianist Theodor Kullak. Kullak was a very demanding teacher, but he helped Joachim to develop his technique and his musical understanding.
