Answer
Joseph L. Goldstein is a renowned American biochemist and physician who is known for his work on cholesterol metabolism. He co-discovered the low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDL-R), the cell-surface receptor that mediates the uptake of LDL cholesterol from the blood. This discovery led to the development of the first cholesterol-lowering drugs, the statins. Goldstein has received numerous awards for his work, including the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1985.
