Juan Manuel de Rosas was a leading figure in Argentina during the 19th century. He was the Governor of Buenos Aires Province from 1829 to 1832 and again from 1835 to 1852. He was a conservative and authoritarian ruler who was opposed to liberal reforms. After his defeat in the Battle of Caseros in 1852, he fled to Britain, where he lived until his death in 1877.
