She was an Australian-American actress who was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role as Blanche DuBois in the 1951 film adaptation of Tennessee Williams' play A Streetcar Named Desire. Anderson was also known for her roles in the films The Ten Commandments (1956), Spartacus (1960), and The King and I (1956).
