In the Battle of Samarra, the Roman emperor Julian was fatally injured. He was leading a campaign against the Sassanid Empire when he was mortally wounded in battle in 363 AD. Despite the valiant efforts of his physicians, his injuries proved too severe, and he succumbed to his wounds shortly after the encounter, at the age of just 31.
