Answer
Black July riots were a series of pogroms against the Sri Lankan Tamil minority that occurred in July 1983, following the assassination of the Sri Lankan Sinhalese politician, Gamini Dissanayake. The riots were sparked by an attack by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) on an army camp in Jaffna, killing 13 soldiers. The riots resulted in the deaths of hundreds of Tamils, and the displacement of thousands more.
