Justinian lived from 525 to 582. He was the longest-reigning emperor of the Eastern Roman Empire, also known as the Byzantine Empire, ruling for nearly four decades. A significant figure in late antiquity, he is remembered for his extensive legal reforms, the compilation of the Justinian Code, and for the reconquest of parts of the former Western Roman Empire.
