On June 19, 2017, in the second round of mayoral elections in Georgia, Kakha Kaladze, a former football player, and politician of the Georgian Dream, was elected as the Mayor of Tbilisi with 51.13% of the vote. He defeated Aleko Elisashvili of the United National Movement, who received 48.87% of the vote.
