Makiko Tanaka is the daughter of Kakuei Tanaka, a former Japanese prime minister. She was born in 1947 and has been involved in politics since the 1980s. She served as a member of the House of Representatives from 1993 to 2005, and was the first woman to serve as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan from 2001 to 2002. She is currently a member of the House of Councillors.
