Who did Kalākaua name as heir-apparent after his brother's death in 1877?

  • Queen Emma

  • Liliʻuokalani

  • William Pitt Leleiohoku II

  • Kamehameha I

Answer

Kalākaua was the last reigning monarch of the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi. After his brother, King Lunalilo, died in 1877 without leaving an heir, Kalākaua named his sister, Liliʻuokalani, as heir-apparent. Liliʻuokalani became queen in 1891 and was overthrown by American and European interests in 1893.
