Karel deLeeuw worked at Stanford. He was a professor of electrical engineering and computer science at Stanford University from 1978 until his retirement in 2009. He was also the director of the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Laboratory from 1983 to 1989. DeLeeuw's research interests included artificial intelligence, computer vision, and natural language processing.
