Karen Carpenter was born in New Haven, Connecticut, on March 2, 1950. She was the older sister of Richard Carpenter, with whom she formed the duo the Carpenters. The Carpenters were one of the most successful musical acts of the 1970s, selling over 100 million records worldwide. Karen died on February 4, 1983, at the age of 32, from complications of anorexia nervosa.
