Alexander Schallenberg succeeded Karin Kneissl to become the Foreign Minister of Austria. Kneissl had been appointed by former Chancellor Sebastian Kurz in June 2017. However, Kurz resigned as Chancellor in May 2019, and Schallenberg was appointed to replace him. He was then confirmed as Foreign Minister by the Austrian Parliament in June 2019.
