Kateri Tekakwitha was born in 1656. She was a Native American woman who lived in the 17th century. She was born in the Mohawk village of Ossernenon, which is now Auriesville, New York. Her father was a Mohawk chief, and her mother was an Algonquin woman. Kateri was baptized into the Catholic Church at the age of 20. She died of tuberculosis at the age of 24.
