In the aftermath of the October Revolution, Malevich held several prominent teaching positions. In 1918, he became a professor at the Moscow State Institute of Art and Technology. In 1919, he founded the Vitebsk State Academy of Art and Design. Malevich's teaching career was instrumental in the spread of Suprematism and other avant-garde movements throughout Russia.
