Kenneth Arrow was a political theorist as well as an economist. He is best known for his contributions to Theory of social choice, in particular the impossibility theorem. This theorem states that it is impossible to create a voting system that satisfies certain desirable properties, such as the requirement that the winner be the most preferred candidate by a majority of voters.
