Answer
United National Independence Party (UNIP) was founded by Kenneth Kaunda. UNIP was a major political party in Zambia from its formation in 1959 until its dissolution in 1991. Kaunda, who served as Zambia's first president from 1964 to 1991, led the party to victory in the country's first democratic elections in 1964. UNIP remained the ruling party until 1991 when it was defeated by the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD).
