The World Championship Wrestling Association was a professional wrestling promotion based in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was founded by Jim Crockett, Jr. in 1980 and operated until 1986, when it was purchased by Ted Turner and renamed World Championship Wrestling. The WCWA was a major player in the southern United States wrestling scene, and was home to such stars as Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes, and Ricky Steamboat.
