Born on 7 November 1943, Khalifa Belqasim Omar Haftar is the Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army, a major faction in the Second Libyan Civil War. He rose to prominence during the 1969 coup that overthrew King Idris I and brought Muammar Gaddafi to power. Haftar later became a fierce opponent of Gaddafi and fought against his regime during the Libyan Civil War in 2011.
