Khorloogiin Choibalsan was the head of the Mongolian People's Army from 1937 to his death in 1952. He was a Soviet-trained military officer who played a key role in the Mongolian Revolution of 1921 and the subsequent establishment of the Mongolian People's Republic. He was also a close ally of Joseph Stalin and played a key role in the Mongolian-Soviet alliance.
