Chun Doo-hwan was arrested by his successor, Roh Tae-woo, for corruption and human rights abuses during his authoritarian presidency from 1980 to 1987. During his anti-corruption campaign, Roh also arrested another former president, Jeon Du-hwan, who had ruled South Korea from 1980 to 1987 and was Chun's predecessor.
