Kirsten Gillibrand was elected to the House of Representatives in 2007. She served in the House from 2007 to 2009, when she was appointed to the Senate to replace Hillary Clinton, who had become Secretary of State. Gillibrand was elected to the Senate in her own right in 2010 and has served there ever since. She is a member of the Democratic Party.
