Kit Carson had many professions during his life, but he is best known for being a fur trapper, wilderness guide, Indian agent, and U.S. Army officer. He was born in New Mexico in 1809 and began trapping beaver at the age of 16. He eventually became one of the most famous trappers in the West and was known for his skill with a rifle and his knowledge of the wilderness.
